So, I tried to think of a good title for my first post on this blog and came up with "Coasting" because I really feel that's how Eric and I deal with change. We take things as they come. Sure, we may protest initially if things don't go our way. However, eventually we realize that we whatever happened has happened and we need to just go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Let's see, that's three cliches in 3 sentences. Not bad!
Seriously though, things have been moving along nicely with house stuff. We got an offer on our house after only one week, which allowed us to pursue the houses we had been considering. Unfortunately, at the same time we decided to make an offer on the house we wanted, so did another couple--and they were faster than us. After the initial disappointment that we were beaten to the house we had really wanted, we decided to make an offer on a cute cape code house that is only a block south of where our current house is. Sure, it wasn't our first choice but, after making our offer and brainstorming a bit, I'm convinced it will serve us well. It's quite a bit bigger than our house and has the potential to be even bigger as the basement is not completely finished. It's also $15,000.00 cheaper than the one we were going to purchase.
As for our house (the one we're selling), we passed all our inspections and are presently awaiting the appraisal. I'll be happier once the appraisal comes in. I'll be happiest if that appraisal comes in at the number we need it to! The new house (the one we're buying) has inspections this week. Today it had a house "colonoscopy," so-to-speak (thank you Eric for the creative description). You know, a sewer inspection where they stick a camera through the sewer line to make sure it's not broken and aren't any tree roots going through it. According to the plumber, it looked pretty good so that's one thing to check off the list. Wednesday is the full inspection so we'll see how that goes.
Nonetheless, assume all goes well with inspections and this house truly does become our own, I'll be spending my summer removing flowery wallpaper, pulling up shag carpet and painting mauve crown molding white. Oh yeah, and painting or removing some lovely knotty pine paneling. Fun times! I see it as "personalizing" the house. Right now we're set to close on June 2nd. We'll keep you posted on how things go!
